Hed to Head Tour 2012 – Review

I got the chance to go check out this tour in Des Moines, IA at People’s on Court!  The show was amazing and full of energy.  In this day and age when you got to have good merch and a great live show to go with your message and music just to make it. Here are two bands that have all that and more!  There area  couple of good tours going on right now, however this is the one you will not want to miss. A chance to see both of these groups together and the energy the unleash is not something to even think about missing.  Get it on your calendar, and get your tickets now.

The Venue is not one of my favorites, having to walk up multiple flights of stairs to a venue is always blah – plus having to leave the event area to get a drink, then not able to take it with you back into event area is really a silly thing.  However the negatives of this event stop there – so if its coming to a city near you. DO NOT miss this one.

American Head Charge – was able to get the crowd amp’d up – lots of moshing. I was surprised to see them bring it this hard and see the response they got. Usually bands that reunite leave a little to be desired, but that was not the case here.

They have a unique sound and a perfect choice to open on the Hed To Head tour!

So after AHC – there is a mad rush to the other area of the venue to piss, buy drinks, drink them, socialize, and attempt to get back in a decent spot for Hed PE to take the stage.

I love the new shirt design Hed PE has out – I picked one up from Jared who was selling the merch himself, as well as signing it, and taking pictures directly after the set. The whole band hit the merch table right off the stage. It was all about the fans who support them. So if you enjoy talking to the artist, here’s a group that don’t bolt instantly after the show!

Got a chance to pop the question that’s always on my mind this year. “Are you guys playing the gathering this year?”  Response was they had been contacted, sounded like they where hoping for a good time slot so they can schedule everything.  Really hoping it gets lined up. Hed PE’s live show has been amazing for years!.

If you have not seen them before – you are missing out.  They have played multiple gatherings and where on the Bang Pow Boom Tour that ICP Headlined, so if you have still managed to miss them, this tour would be a great chance to catch them and be introduced to them.

They mix it up from their mid 90’s to their current releases. From fast hard core, to slow funky punx rock. Throw in a little hip hop with a message behind it all and you have something you will not see anywhere else. These guys have influenced a whole group of main stream bands.

It was said by all bands this night, and you could tell it was the case for Hed PE.  They brought a little extra to the table in honor of MCA of Beastie Boys – as a Major Influence for Hed PE, they left nothing in the tank, it was a performance full of energy, sweat, heart, and just all out punk rock to the max.

Hed PE is what Live Music is all about! One of a few bands out there, who not only produce good music, but have vocals with meaning and purpose. Then on top of that – they put their all into it.

You’ll see me rocking the new shirt at this years gathering, check out all the Hed PE merch over at their Website

Mushroomhead – head lined the show – and they ended up with the most pictures in the gallery below. I wish I was able to see them more often. Hell for the review I could simply say.  “Water Drums – Nuff Said”  but then you’d have nothing to read, and unless you’ve seen this live show, you have no clue what I am talking about.

Mushroomhead has a huge stage presence with multiple members doing multiple things, as you can see from the pictures, a large part of it is the two sets of two large lighted water drums that adds a amazing effect to the show.  Now being a ICP fan, I am no stranger to getting a little wet at a concert. Oh, and If you hadn’t noticed they wear some pretty kick ass masks as well as part of their on stage persona. They have done this since 1993.

After just one show back in 93′ they where invited to play with GWAR.  Have been a hit ever since.  They have a unique style of industrial metal that comes out amazing live.  They had a long set full of all their great, hard hitting tracks. Was huge crowd interaction, letting them work a instrument a time or two, stage diving, even snagging a camera from a fan a time or two and snapping a few pictures from the stage. Just a all out epic time.

Towards the end of the set, Drummers from the previous bands including Hed PE, took over on water drums and had a blast on them, you can see all this in the massive amount of pictures I was able to snap off.  I do gotta hand it to my cheap lil Nikon – it took some water, and one drop and still kept firing away.

After the show, was able to pop the Gathering question to a few members, and it seems they have not been contacted at all, but had a blast the last time and would love to again…. Hear that psychopathic??  Everyone should pop over to the Gatherings Twitter page and request they get this lined up ASAP.
